Jambo, and welcome to magical Kenya. Without question, Kenya during the wildebeest migration should be on your bucket list. Looking for an Africa safari geared 100% for wildlife photography? This is your safari. The wildlife spectacle is simply astounding. Our tour includes the two most exciting and productive photo locations Kenya has to offer: Our first shoot begins in Samburu Game Reserve, located in the northern arid savannah of Kenya. Samburu is famous for grasslands, picturesque red colored rolling hills, red elephants, and rare wildlife inhabitants such as Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Oryx, and Dik-Diks.

Saving the best for last, we have seven full filming days in the Masai Mara, the crown jewel of our safari. The “Mara” is the northern most extension of the Serengeti ecosystem. The vast plains and scattered acacia trees are home to greatest spectacle on earth. Countless wildlife films including the “Big Cat Diaries” were filmed in the same locations we visit. The vast openness of the grasslands means the daily life of a wide variety of animals is right out in the open for our cameras. Our safari is scheduled to be during the prime zebra and wildebeest migration, one of the wildlife wonders of the world that tops every list of safari experiences. Imagine the daily interaction between an estimated 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra, and 400,000 gazelles and the big cats such as cheetah, leopard, and lion.

This safari is for anyone serious about wildlife photography: only three photographers in each vehicle, luxury lodges, all meals, and park entrance fees. Our outstanding local guides fully understand the needs of serious photographers. Enjoy your safari with two award winning and friendly photographers, having led 17 previous wildlife tours to Kenya. Unlike most tours, we are flying between all safari camps and back Nairobi. Flying eliminates countless grueling hours of driving across rough and dusty roads, getting you to camp quickly and effortlessly. Flying also affords more shooting time at each location.

Past participants, many of them on safari with me 3 and 4 times, describe the experience as life changing. Along with the tremendous wildlife photography, the sights, sounds, smells, camaraderie around the campfire, the friendships with our guides, all go into making memories that last a lifetime.

Kenya 2015 Itinerary
  • Aug. 14: Depart U.S. for overnight flight to Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Aug. 15: Evening arrival in Nairobi. Proceed through customs and immigration formalities at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport. Upon exiting from baggage we are met by our land-based representative, and transferred to Safari Park Hotel by private vehicle. Overnight, breakfast buffet is included next morning.
  • Aug. 16: After breakfast, we are transferred by private vehicle to Wilson Airport for our flight to Samburu Game Reserve. This rugged and remote reserve provides opportunities to film game not seen elsewhere in Kenya. We are met upon arrival by our guide and transferred to Elephant Bedroom Camp for lunch and afternoon game drive.
  • Aug. 17, 18, 19: Three full days of game filming in Samburu Game Reserve home to six special big game species rarely seen elsewhere: Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk, Guenther’s Dik-Dik, and Beisa Oryx. Overnights at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
  • Aug. 20: Morning departure for 90 minute flight over the Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve offering volcanic scenery, rolling grasslands, and plenty of big game. Upon arrival we are met by our guide, transferred to Mara Intrepids Camp for lunch and first afternoon game drive for filming in the Masai Mara.
  • Aug. 21-27: A full week filming in world famous Masai Mara where game is in super abundance as it existed a century ago. This area is world famous for the wildlife spectacle and the Mara Intrepids Camp has us located in the heart of the action.
  • Aug. 28: After early morning game drive we are transferred to the nearby airstrip for your one hour flight back to Nairobi. We are met upon arrival at Wilson Airport and transferred by private vehicle to our day rooms at Nairobi Serena Hotel. We have group lunch at the Carnivore restaurant, and then transported to Jomo Kenyatta Airport for return flights.

Notes: Our safari is designed to maximize photographic opportunities, therefore, we will not be in camp for breakfast. Our camps provide breakfast boxes that we take on location for when there is a break in the action.

Many find it very beneficial to arrive a day early in Nairobi. This gives you a full day to relax among the beautiful hotel grounds, and affords you an additional day to catch up should there be any flight difficulties. We can book you an additional day, just let us know upon registering. The extra night at the Safari Park Hotel will be charged to you upon checkout.
