William Manning and I began leading photo tours/workshops together over 30 years ago. Both of us are thrilled to bring you a first class digital photography workshop in several tremendous locations.

We are excited about sharing with you the beauty of three relatively unknown canyons in Arizona. We are pleased to offer a tour of Ha Ho Geh Canyon, Coalmine Canyon and Blue Canyon as first stops on this three-part itinerary. Bill scouted and photographed these areas last year, and his images are simply stunning, and better yet, the areas are virtually deserted. We can explore and photograph in complete solitude.

Leaving our trio of hidden canyons, we drive to Mexican Hat and explore this gem off the beaten path. We will explore the panoramic views from Muley Point and the winding goosenecks of the San Juan River below. This area is loaded with striped rock formations everywhere, a perfect location to explore telephoto pattern extractions, and much more.

The location for numerous western movies, Monument Valley is our last destination. The first evening we photograph classic views of the two mittens at sunset. The next morning we explore by car, the 17 mile Monument Valley Scenic Road, making numerous stops such as: Elephant Butte, Three Sisters, John Ford’s Point, Camel Butte, North Window, The Thumb.

The grand finale for this tour is an overnight high on top of Hunts Mesa for incredible views of the valley and towering buttes at sunset and sunrise. Our overnight on Hunts Mesa is a guided adventure with camping gear, steak dinner, and breakfast included. Fee for this option is included in workshop fee - Option 1.

Or, for those who don’t camp, we have arranged a guided sunrise and sunset tour of Mystery Valley for you. Our guided tour is led by the Philips family, a well-known Navajo family, familiar with the needs of serious photographers. You will see and photograph spectacular locations off limits to the general public. The fee for this guided tour is also included in tour fee - Option 2.

You may choose to do one or the other of the two options listed above.

Instructional Topics:

This is a photographic tour, not our usual workshop, as such we will not be holding formal classroom lectures. Instead we are discussing and demonstrating techniques on location every session as needed or requested. Weather permitting, we will be out very early and returning late: photographing and learning in a relaxed fun atmosphere. Bill and I will be with you in the field at each location, instructing as needed in each situation. There will be plenty of one of one interaction with both instructors in the field.
